A Christmas inspired proposal

Merry Christmas everybody!!!!
In line with the Christmas spirit, we're posting a very, very, very intimate Christmas inspired proposal. One of the founders of 1QL was proposed to by her boyfriend, and we made it very very special. We transformed her bedroom into a winter wonderland. Christmas lights, hanging snowflakes, baby's breath bouquets and tens of candle lit tea lights made the Christmas ambiance. In the midst of it all, the boy down on bended knee with a bouquet of red roses and of course the ring. Needless to say, there were tears, and a "YES" was muttered from the girl.
It was a happy moment and we are so happy to be able to be a part of it. Kudos to the groom-to-be for picking such an awesome engagement ring!
The next day, we had a celebratory brunch and the bride-to-be gave us the most wonderful gift - asking us to be her bridesmaid in the most creative way, look below. The people paper chain represents the different dresses that the bridesmaid will wear. I'm excited for the dresses!!!!!!
Happy moments!

Bridal Market 2010 Report

I decided to share with you the results from Bridal Market 2010. It's a little late, but hey, you know the saying, better late than never! Bridal Market is like Fashion Week, but it's specific for wedding gowns. Just like Fashion Week, it was held in New York City and the creme-de-la-creme of wedding gown designers were there to show their latest collections. Southern Magazines did a full report (like 8 different blog posts) about Bridal Market 2010. And so, based on their report, we would like to share with you the designer gowns that we personally hand picked.

Amsale - ah, my mostest favoritest awesomeest wedding gown designer. I LOVE AMSALE. Cannot get enough of their dresses. It just suits my personal style, clean lines, simple silhouettes, but with intricate details. I think I would have to wear an Amsale dress on my wedding day (please God let that happen soon!!!!)

Monique Lhuillier - Dresses from Monique Lhuillier seem like they come straight out of a romantic storybook. Lacy, frilly, girly and oh-so-dreamy dresses.

Badgley Mishcka - Some of their collection that I thought are simply stunning. I especially love the short dress! It has pockets!! I fully agree with the idea of having pockets on wedding gowns. Stroke of genius!

And last but not least, Priscilla of Boston - Your classics, served with a modern twist.

Hope you all are inspired!

Real Wedding - Ike & Boyke

We featured Ike & Boyke's engagement here back in October and now we are excited to feature their traditional wedding ceremony. It started with a one day event of 'siraman' and 'pengajian' and followed the next day with a Palembang traditional wedding ceremony. The Photograph did a wonderful job once again, capturing all the pretty details that a traditional wedding offers and all the candid moments between Ike, Boyke and their families.

Congrats to Ike & Boyke once again! You guys are stunning together!

I totally love this picture of Ike. So stunning!! My favorite picture of the bunch!

So I asked Ike what this was all about, why her brother had to carry so many pots and pans. And she said that it was part of tradition. Since Ike is the first child to be married in her family, this symbolizes that it would make way for her younger sisters to meet their match. The guests would fight over the pots and pans, to symbolize how men would fight over Ike's sisters. How cute!

Be sure to check out The Photograph's website for more of their awesome work!

Wedding Shot Wednesdays

This week's Wedding Shot Wednesdays is a tribute to bridal parties. People in your bridal parties are people that you love the most, people that got your back through thick and thin. So here's a tribute of awesome, awesome wedding shots of the bridal party! Coz without the support of them, we all know we probably would not make it in this world.

Why don't you - give cheap & chic Christmas gift

People who know me would echo the sentiment that I am really hard to please. Most of the time, it is true. But it's only true because I am very specific and I know what I want, especially in terms of gift. I am a sucker for keeping images which I gather online just as a motivation and constantly hoping that "The Secret" miracle book is actually a proven theory (i.e. the more you wish for items that you constantly see and imagine everyday, the universe will conspire the energy so that you will soon get it..HOORAH!!).

Speaking of gifts, I have spent a good eight years abroad, in a land where capitalism rules and everybody seems to constantly do gift giving on every single occasion. The tradition kind of rubbed on me, but instead of just buying stuff off of the counter, I have learned to really give something with emotion. Something with purpose, and something that you know the recipient will appreciate.

Since I know most of us are probably on a budget, I have made some suggestions below, which are actually pretty basic with ingredients that are easy to find in Jakarta. Enjoy:

1. Fresh flower
We know ordering through florist is just a click away. But wouldn't it be fun and special if you could just create your own bouquet and send it personally? You don't really need to be a rocket scientist to arrange a bouquet. One to three type of flowers is enough, even I would love to receive baby's breath bouquet! Tips: go to Rawa Belong and Pasar Cikini to find the freshest flowers on a negotiated price :)

2. Gingerbread cookie
This is a super simple recipe from Queen Martha. All of the ingredients are easy to find in supermarket (I recommend Grand Lucky at SCBD area). On top of making your friends crazily happy with this cookies, you house will also smell lovely just like Christmas :)

3.Cocoa in a package
You can easily put together a mix hot chocolate and wrapped it in a super cute packaging to give to your friends. Served with marshmallow will guarantee you to be on top of everyone's heart.

4. Stationery Kit
I can literally spend hours at bookstore. I can spend hours trying out pens, pencils, markers, buying crepe papers, tissue papers, ribbons and all of the stationery sets. Although this will be an unorthodox Christmas gift, I am sure everybody will love this out-of-the-box idea. You can even give a packaged of empty christmas cards! Now who wants to give me calligraphy pens?

5. Personalized Christmas greeting
I love love love personalized card. One of my bestfriends is super talented in crafting greeting card, I literally get teary eyed when I read it (I am a sentimental duck). You could literally go wild on this one..from traditional paper greeting card, to YouTube Christmas greeting! One request though, please omit from uploading pictures and tagging everyone on facebook...it is kind of lame-o!

When you are tight on budget, the above ideas can serve as options...it is the thought that counts!

Snowflakes out of polygamy paper???

This is the conversation between me and a store clerk today.

me: Hi, do you sell origami papers here?
him: What? Polygamy papers???
me: O-RI-GA-MI papers
him: oh, origami papers. no, we don't

True story.

The reason I was looking for origami papers is because I am currently in the middle of making paper snowflakes, for no particular reason, except coz Christmas is right around the corner and I miss snow. So, the next best thing? Paper snowflakes.

So, I started making a few, and decided to use some to decorate a present that I'm giving to my friend later this week as an early Christmas present.

I like it! Hope my friend will like it too. Happy early Christmas present giving to you who celebrates it!!!
